Constructivism is a style of teaching that we are beginning to use in our classroom. This simply means your child is learning by actively constructing their own meaning. The constructivist approach focuses on brain friendly teaching like processing information, making the meaning personal and unique, and the use of higher-order thinking skills. Students of all ages need activities in order to process what they are learning. The main goal for our classroom is to become learners who construct our own understanding through activities and reflection!
The Flipped classroom is completely changing classrooms and our traditional teaching practices. Most of us remember the traditional lectures that never really seemed to stick with us. If only there had been an engaging hook to the lesson. TA-DA! Thanks to the flipped classroom, teachers are going from lectures to engaging hands on activities for students. The flipped classroom incorporates a lot of technology, which as you know, we are integrating into our classroom a lot more. For me, I become the "guide on the side", and let the students collaborate and share ideas. It's important to let the students shine, and communicate their thinking processes with one another. The flipped classroom has forever changed my learning outcomes! I have noticed a significant decrease in the number of students failing (YAY!!!). I love that student frustration has been eliminated from the classroom. Thanks to the flipped classroom I am able to differentiate instruction by re-teaching concepts to students who need a little extra help. As for you, the wonderful parents, we are able to communicate with each other so much better, and I hope you have noticed a difference in your child, our interactions, and our learning practices. PLEASE, do not hesitate to ask me any questions about the flipped classroom. There are a lot of misconceptions, and I can assure you it's proving successful in classrooms all over. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
