Course Description: This course will provide a holistic overview of the issues and trends associated with using the Internet for instruction. Participants will review and discuss literature from a variety of sources, such as educational technology research journals, educational technology practitioner magazines, online articles and websites, and select books. Participants will engage in group reading discussions and projects, compose position papers, and chart the history, current state and possible future developments in educational technology. Field experience is not required.

Description: Throughout the course modules, students will be given a set of guiding questions which must be answered and discussed in detail using a group Ning. Publishing ning submissions enables students to connect, communicate, and collaborate with the Flat Connections Global Community.

Course Blog (Outcome 1; 2; 3; 4; 5)Description: Throughout the course, students will research and reflect upon various issues and trends related to embedding global collaboration into the classroom through the use of educational technology. Students will be required to answer questions, prompts, and scenarios related to their findings in a personal blog. Guidelines and rubric are provided.
Objectives:
Set Up RSS Reader (Outcome 1; 2; 3; 4; 5)Description: In our textbook (Lindsay & Davis, 2013), students learn how creating their own Personal Learning Network (PLN) can be an efficient learning pathway to aid them as future educators in their quest in becoming life-long learners. In this assignment, students will set up their own personal learning network (PLN) using the RSS reader of their choice by subscribing to the same 10 feeds. Throughout the semester, students will continue to add relevant educational feeds to their RSS reader. Guidelines and rubric are provided.

Create a Classroom Monitoring Portal (Outcome 2; 3)Description: Classroom Monitoring Portals (CMP) are discussed in the textbook (Lindsay & Davis, 2013) as ways to build a powerful tool to manage student behavior in public spaces. For this assignment, students will use SymbalooEdu to create a Classroom Monitoring Portal for their future classroom. Students will build their CMP containing a combination of educational websites appropriate for their grade-level that includes digital safety web sites.

Give Your Students a Choice Project/ Lesson Plan Assignment (Outcome 1; 2; 3; 4; 5)Description: In this assignment, students will write a project/lesson plan in which their future students are given a choice in their outcome and topic for a project. Students must include all elements of an UDL lesson plan, including before, during and after activities. Students will align the project objectives using either the ISTE Nets standards or the P21 Framework. Students must also demonstrate knowledge of incorporating/integrating technologies into lessons. Description: Following the Flat Classroom Project global project design strategies and materials in our textbook (Lindsay & Davis, 2013,) students will brainstorm in collaborative groups to design a plan for a global collaborative classroom project in a content area that interests them.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students will:
- Explore real-world issues and solve authentic problems using digital tools and resources (Nets-T 1(b); InTASC 5)
- Demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations (Nets-T 3(a); InTASC 4)

This was a very fun and interesting course. We were introduced to a lot of new and exciting issues and trends that are approaching in technology. For example, creating the global design project! I loved the framework we were given to follow. Our book, along with our modules, provided us with everything we needed to know. THIS BOOK IS AMAZING! This course is filled with excellent tools and strategies we need in our future educational careers! If you're ready to learn about the latest technology and transform as an educator in the flattening classrooms, then this is the class for you!!
